Beauty is the equivalent of self-care. I mean, where would we be without our precious seven-step skin-care routines and two-hour baths? All kidding aside, having a beauty/skin-care routine can actually do wonders for your mental health and help find your zen — because sometimes, we need a little pamper pick-me-up to help us calm the f*ck down from all negative drama in our lives *side eye*.
Let us be your brand new bible to the journey of self-care via “getting ready” by showing you some of our favorite beauty products that will help you feel brand new after a long day. Your mind and body will thank us.
Coconut Facial Mist
When you’re smashed between two people in a crowded subway, just spray a little coconut mist on your face and you’ll instantly feel like you’re on the beach with your toes in the sand — it’s the little things that count, right? Coconut water is really great for your skin. It has cytokines which help promote cell growth. So not only does it hydrate but it also helps reduce damage, which is a win-win if you asked us. But if you really need to calm the f*ck down, we recommend massaging your temples with coconut oil, it helps eliminate mental fatigue — or, you know, downing a bottle of red, but coconut oil works, too.
Available at Sephora for $32
Gemstone Facial Rollers
The coolness of the jade roller is a great way to massage away those overworked muscles and depuff your under eye circle after a tough day—don’t worry, we’ve all been there. What makes jade rollers especially great is that they can help your skin-care products have way more staying power. The rhythm of rolling the jade over your skin can help meditate and calm you down before a good night’s rest. If you freeze it the day before and have a zit on your face, gently roll it over the problems areas to reduce the redness.
Available at Dermstore for $35
Himalayan Salt Scrub
We all need a little—or a lot—of pampering nowadays and thankfully, a Himalayan salt lamp will do the trick. HSL is used mainly for its air purifying properties. If you need bad eons out of your sacred place at home, then bring out the salt. It absorbs water which can carry allergens, pollutants, and even bacteria. This can be helpful when you’re feeling ill and need to keep your health strong to get through the week. No one wants to get the flu when they’re stressed the f*ck out.
Scrub available at Target for $4.99 and the salt lamp at UO for $34
Peppermint Essential Oil During Your Shower
Essential oils are great when your anxiety is on a whole other level. Peppermint, specifically, gives a cooling sensation and has a calming effect on the body; it’s a great anti-nausea tool and relieves headaches, too. It can also be used for a spa-like treatment while you shower.
Put a few drops at the bottom of your shower floor before you get in to feel more energized for a perfect start of your day or alleviate any headaches. But if you’re looking a chill time (see what we did there?), the lavender essential oil calls for a more relaxing therapeutic experience. Pro tip: When you don’t have time to zen out at home, use essential oils during your commute to manage your stress for a meditative journey that you’ll actually enjoy.
Available at Young Living for $28.09
Silk Eye-Mask
The main benefit of a silk eye-mask is to prevent anti-aging. The soft material is perfect for delicate skin and the mask part will help you get more snooze in after a long workday. We all try to get eight hours of sleep and fail most of the time, but this mask is a must-buy if you want to get a solid beauty rest.
Available at Silk Magnolia for $39.90
