Get Lost

Winter Weekend Getaways

by Keely McCormick

I don’t know about you, but my favorite season to hop on a plane and take a quick weekend vacation is the winter. Not only is it the perfect time to get away from the cold (or embrace it, depending on the destination), but you can also find some amazing deals on flights and accommodations during the chillier months. So, if you’re low on PTO days at work but want to still get away, keep reading for some easy-to-access vacations from right here in NYC.

Bermuda

If you’re looking for beaches less than 2 ½ hours from NYC, Bermuda is your best bet. Bermuda is a territory made up of over 100 islands and there is definitely no shortage of sun, fun, and beautiful beaches.

Siesta Key, Florida

Anywhere in Florida is a great option for a quick trip but Siesta Key is my favorite. It has amazing beaches, great food, and is only about a 3-hour plane ride away.

New Orleans, LA

If the beach isn’t really your thing, New Orleans is a super fun, bustling city that doesn’t get too cold during the winter months. The flight takes about 3 hours but is totally worth it if you’re ready to grub out, listen to jazz music, and drink booze of course.

Jamaica

In less than 4 hours, you can bask in the sun on the beautiful beaches of Jamaica, all while sipping on rum and eating jerk chicken (which may or may not be my personal fave.) Jamaica has several amazing destinations all based on what you’re looking to do, which means the options are basically endless.

Adirondack Mountains, NY

If you like the snow more than the sand, the Adirondacks are the perfect weekend destination. There’s skiing, snowmobiling, cozy cabins, and more! The trip is about a 5-hour car ride from NYC, but there are bus and train options as well.

Reykjavik, Iceland

While a 5 ½-hour flight may seem long for a weekend getaway (it actually isn’t a bad flight at all, promise), trust me when I say, Iceland is totally worth it. From the blue lagoons to the volcanos to the black sand beaches, there are endless opportunities to experience new things. Plus, the winter is the best time to see the Northern Lights in Iceland!

Tulum, Mexico

Tulum is one of my favorite places I’ve ever been to and I don’t say that lightly. It’s only about a 3 ½-hour plane ride to Cancun and then an additional hour to drive to Tulum. While there are beaches for miles, there’s also so many other things to do like cenotes, swimming with turtles, Mayan ruins, and more.

Montreal, Canada

A 1 ½-hour flight or a 6-hour drive, Montreal is a great weekend getaway if you’re looking for a city landscape. The architecture alone makes Montreal a beautiful vacation spot and on top of that, the food is great and the people are incredibly nice. They don’t call it the Paris of North America for nothing!
